The Ragdoll is a semi longhair breed originating from California, USA. The breed was created by Ann Baker by breeding a white female Persian to a male Birman in the early 1960's.
Ragdolls have a rather big and long body. The adult males weight about 12-20 pounds and more, females weight 10-15 pounds. Some cats are as long is about 1 metre from nose to the end of tail. The coat is soft like rabbit fur and being longer around the neck and on the hindquarters forms "the ruff" and so called "britches". The tail is very bushy.
Ragdolls come in the any of the following 6 colors: Seal Point, Blue Point, Chocolate Point, Lilac Point, Red Point, and Cream Point. The eyes are always blue, no other colour are accepted. Ragdolls are born white with their color and reach their full colour only when they are 2 years old.
The Ragdolls is very good at relaxing especially in the hands of the owner . They seem to able to relax every muscle of their body. Ragdolls are also known for their very sweet, placid and docile personalities. They are devoted and loyal to their owner. The Ragdoll's fur does mat, light shed. The occasional combing is required.
The Ragdoll is recongnized by FIFe, WCF, TICA.
